The Founding Fathers and Slavery

Even before the Declaration of Independence,  many of the Founding Fathers worked to end Slavery.   But the ruling class in England overruled local ordinances passed to stop slavery.   Go back to the original documents to reveal true history.   Do not embrace the revised narrative of modern socialists, and big government advocates.   These groups, to advance their ideology, must marginalize the U.S Constitution, its founders, and our reliance on Religion for standard of morality and right conduct in society.   Click here for the rest of the story not told in public schools.

South Carolina Does not Deserve School Choice

School Choice in South Carolina was not passed in 2011 by the smallest of margins.   We can thank the following Republicans who decided not to support the Republican Platform for more freedom, and less government control.    These State Legislators need primary challengers.   They are bought and paid for by the lobbyists and the Public School monopolists.   Whereever a large pool of public funds can be found,  the shameless special interests are drawn.

The school choice Bill  was killed by six Republicans from Spartanburg County.  The Spartanburg Six could not take the chance that debating the Bill may have captured just one more vote, so they voted with 44 Democrats to table (kill) the Bill.  So, who were the RINOs that voted in favor of silencing their fellow Republicans and against a key plank of the Party platform?  They were:

  • Rita Alison,
  • Steve Parker,
  • Eddie Tallon,
  • Dough Brannon,
  • Mike Forrester
  • Derham Cole.

State Representative Doug Brannon gave numerous excuses and false statements at a Rino Hunt Meeting regarding his successful motion to kill the School Choice bill, H3407  during June, 2011.

Fellow Spartanburg "Republic in Name Only" Representative Steve Parker also gave insulting and false reasons for his vote to kill the school choice bill.  Two years of effort to make things better for our families and encourage the private schools that offer excellent alternatives to the bloated and protected public school system was derailed by these false Republicans.   Thanks to Representative Rita Alison’s lack of fidelity she decided to champion the lobbyists and protect the public education bureaucracy and its false promises of reform.

In Spartanburg,  School Superintendents used public funds to mount campaigns to stop School Choice.  These Superintendents are compensated with enormous salaries.    What follows is an extract from

http://www.voiceforschoolchoice.com/2011/08/04/spartanburg-schools-pay-to-play/

In early June, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the seven public school districts in Spartanburg County requesting copies of emails written by the seven superintendents to their staff and boards about H.3407 and S.520, the school choice bills.

The results were staggering. Hundreds of emails were obtained in which superintendents plead with their subordinates as well as their school boards to “please contact members of the committee[s] and urge them to vote against the bill[s].” District Four alone demanded over $1,400 to offset the cost of printing out 7,165 pages of emails to and from Superintendent Rallie Liston and staffers about the legislation.

But there is more; in addition to using public resources to directly pressure their own public employees to lobby, the Spartanburg Superintendents also coordinated with taxpayer funded special interest groups to orchestrate statewide efforts to fight against reforms to the public schools. Each and everyone of them regularly forwarded partisan political talking points and strategy memos from SCEA (an NEA sock-puppet), SCASA and SCSBA with directives for defeating the legislation to school principals and administrators to pass down their respective chains of command.

The emails from the FOIA request offer a peak at how local superintendents, particularly Scott Mercer (District 2), Rallie Liston (District 4) and Jim Ray (District 3) worked with lobbyists at the Administrators’ and School Boards’ Association to plot and plan the taxpayer-funded fight. These groups all use money from the state and the district for their day-to-day operations.

But in Greenville County we thank all our Legislators that voted for the people and not the special interests.

The August 4, 2011 Panel Discussion on School Choice at the Zen in downtown Greenville.   Senator Tom Davis and Mr. Taft Matney, Jr.  were part of the panel.   Don Rodgers was the emcee.

It costs taxpayers $11,500 for each child in public education.  H-3407 would have allowed a $4,000 tax credit for each child not in public education.  That means $7,500 would have remained in public education for each child placed outside of the system.  Research shows a net savings by allowing the tax credits that are proposed in the Bill.  The children left in these schools would be better served because the student-teacher ratio would decrease, therefore allowing increased attention for students that need more one-on-one time.  There would be fewer retirees in the failed system therefore reducing the tax burden to fund the retirement system in decades to come. The worst excuse of all is that it doesn’t do enough for poor children.  The poor children are being hurt worst by the failed system.  They are the ones that cannot afford any other options.  The truth is; the current system allows wealthier families to place their children in private education while leaving the poor on their own.
