The Subsidy That Just Keeps on Taking
Your taxes keep going up. Instead of cutting spending, Greenville County Councilman work to lock you into permanent tax increases. Just like alot of levels of government, they just think that central planning is the best type of government.
Here in Greenville, the county is subsidizing a local bus system with $3 million, so that the largest busses available can transport 1 or 2 passengers around town. Very Nice!
Over in Pheonix, Arizona, the local government knew best. Here are two revelations for Phoenix light rail that highlight their folly:
First, a $32.73 one way subsidy per rider is being provided by tax payers, but more energy is expended with the light rail service than if everyone just drove a car!
Second, the BTUs expended per passenger mile for Phoenix light rail was 4402. The average for passenger cars as determined by the DOE is 3437 BTU/PM. The train uses 28% more energy to move one rider one mile than does the average car.
